The Oakland Fab City community is growing, as we engage more Oaklanders to help with this long term effort.
We’ve been asking folks to take the Fab City Pledge, and express their vision, their goals, and their individual commitment to building Oakland 2054—a circular economy where we produce all we consume.

Mayor of Oakland
took the pledge July 2018
I took the Fab City Pledge because our existing systems have left behind so many in Oakland. We owe it to our residents to shape a more resilient city.
Fab City will succeed when we keep looking ahead, and find transformative solutions to create broad-based and inclusive economic development.
I will make Fab City a priority for my second elected term, and ensure that the City of Oakland and our partners are engaged for the long haul.

City of Oakland
took the Pledge July 2018
I took the Pledge because we must build wealth for all! As we create a circular economy, in which we produce everything we consume, we create wealth, opportunity and long-term sustainability.
Fab City needs to build inclusive infrastructure, partnerships and trust. All stakeholders must know how they directly contribute to their community’s economic development.
I will contribute my network of public, private and community partnerships, and convey to that network why this work is so important.

Laney College
took the pledge July 2018
I took the pledge because, as an educator, I’ve seen first-hand the impact that FabLabs have on students. FabLabs reach right brain learners in visual, tactile and mind-opening ways.
Fab City needs to be inclusive of all and for FabLabs to be accessible to all. We need to stay focused on our end goal: a circular economy that meets the needs of our community.
I will contribute by spreading the Fab City vision. I am passionate about creating, making and being part of a new tomorrow.
Laney College

I took the Fab City Pledge because FabLabs and Fab City bring technology into new places and help bridge the tech divide.
To be successful, Fab City needs to get its message out to everyone in Oakland.
I will contribute my experience in designing new kinds of energy efficient homes, which I hope will be built in our Fab City!

I took the Fab City Pledge because ideas and innovation matter. FabLabs allow all community members to contribute to creative efforts in “the commons”.
To succeed, Fab City needs broad, diverse engagement on real-world platforms.
I will contribute my years of nonprofit leadership experience, helping to solve real problems with radical ideas, resources, and residents.

I took the Fab City Pledge because we need better, more inclusive and equitable systems for local economic development.
Fab City will be successful when we have a vibrant, broad-based local economy, where Oakland residents are well-supported as they start, grow and keep their healthy businesses.

I took the Pledge because Fab City will create real pathways into meaningful college and career opportunities for East Oakland youth.
Fab City will be successful when it is inclusive, and remembers that it is in service to Oaklanders committed to local movements, justice and community.
I will contribute advocacy for high school students in the Castlemont community, and my insights and experience as an educator.

I took the Fab City Pledge because Oakland’s youth need an ecosystem that connects their creativity, vision and education with social good and entrepreneurship.
Fab City needs a generation of creatives with the knowledge of how to align their passions with the jobs of the future and access to the tools needed to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution in Oakland.
I will contribute by consistently educating Oakland’s youth to the power in their vision and the opportunities to create their version of Oakland’s future.

Fab City needs places throughout Oakland which cultivate collaboration and innovation. Those places must be connected together to serve their communities, and the individuals in them.
I will contribute 100% of my professional energy to ensure this project is successful beyond all our expectations.

I took the Fab City Pledge because our young people need to learn to be both thinkers and doers, and I’ve seen FabLabs be successful teaching just that.

Fab City needs to locate FabLabs strategically throughout Oakland to reach residents of every social and economic demographic. To serve their members, they must be connected to each other and to the resources in education, job training, and entrepreneurship.
I will contribute my voice in promoting FabLabs, my strategic thinking in developing them and my energy to support them.

Fab City needs to work to eradicate the deficit-minded thinking that plagues our communities. This will require clear goals and a broad-based coalition committed to collaboration and creative approaches.
I will contribute my experience as an educator and community organizer to help bring partners and activators together to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem that will allow Oakland to thrive.

Fab City needs the perspectives and participation of formerly incarcerated people.

Fab City needs the support of the City of Oakland, along with accessible and supportive spaces and infrastructure for local manufacturers.
I will contribute jobs in a local factory, skilled training for our workers, and support for the local creative community in their commercial pursuits.

I took the Pledge because, when I was pursuing my degree in Mechanical Engineering, I yearned for a nurturing, supportive and visionary environment to inspire me in my journey. Fab City will provide just that for future innovators.
Fab City needs a purposeful, dedicated, welcoming team to offer inspiration, education, and permission to dream.
I will contribute support for the growth and economic mobility of our most underserved social entrepreneurs - through education, consultation, mentoring, and access to capital.

I will contribute my thought leadership, along with my passion for designing regenerative systems, and places that reflect Oakland people and culture. I will make sure that youth leaders have appropriate tools to lead the design of our future, and participate in opportunities that Fab Labs can offer. The youth are our Future!

I took the Pledge because our world and our children require that we produce, not just consume. It's up to us to minimize environmental impacts, support local economic growth and inspire young entrepreneurs, artisans, and creatives to share, collaborate and succeed.
Fab City needs cultural humility and shared leadership, which can only come from trust and accountability built on meaningful relationships. We need each other to grow with a shared vision for our future. Our community needs radical healing! We need wellness! We need love!
I will contribute support for local business and youth entrepreneurs by buying and trading products produced in Oakland. I will add my voice to Fab City health and wellness conversations. I will recruit families to participate in shared decision-making.
